Musical Monday: Beast (Bioshock Infinite)

Now, the song actually never appeared in "Bioshock Infinite".  However, it provided music for one of the final trailers, and subsequently became synonymous with the game.

Musical Monday: The Ocean on His Shoulders (Bioshock)

Have I SERIOUSLY never posted this before?  Have I not posted ANY Bioshock Music?

Huh.

Anyway, this is the main theme of Bioshock (Cohen's music is actually a really funny abberation.  Basically, the composer didn't understand the directions behind composing the theme, ( it was supposed to be discordant rather than insane) He played it, and the 2K looked at eachother and went "Well, that wasn't what we were expecting, and we liked it!)   The song "The Ocean on his Shoulders" mainly plays when you see Rapture for the first time.

Also, it's gorgeous.  I use it as a ringtone because it's VGM (which I love) but it sounds professional (which is also great).  It's the right amount of beauty and disturbing content which is perfect for Bioshock since the world is such a mix of beauty and horror.

Musical Monday: Valadilene (Syberia)

Syberia is a point and click game made in 2002.  It (and the sequel) tracks the adventure of Kate Walker as she travels over Europe trying to find an heir so a factory can be sold.

Each area has it's own music, but it generally only plays when you solve a puzzle.  This is the music for the first area, Valadilene.

Also, the game is a lot of fun.

Musical Monday: Lady Tears II (Shadow Hearts III: From the New World)

Another one of those games I really should play.  This is the final battle music.  It's discordant, and yet oddly triumphant.

Musical Monday: Kingdom of Ixa'taxa (Skies of Arcadia)

One of those games I really need to play and yet I can't access it...

Anyway, enjoy the drums!

Musical Monday: Kolima Forest (Golden Sun)

This is another game I have to beat.  Seriously, the last dungeon is incredibly confusing but the game itself is really good.  It's a great JRPG that has all of the basic forms but is drastically different from Final Fantasy and WildARMS.  (I need to talk more about this and WildARMS though...)

Enjoy just one of the great pieces of music.

Musical Monday: Ducktales

I was torn.  Today's April Fools day, and I was NOT going to fall for something like  last time. (In my defense, part of the proof was that not the normal translator "Translated" the page.  I do not go to that site, so I didn't know it.)  So, I'm just going to post.my own thing.  But, should I prank the music or do it honestly?

I did Ducktales' main theme because it's good and it's licensed, not what I normally do for Musical Monday.

So, sing along, especially as the game is coming back.

Musical Monday- Baba Yetu (Civilization IV)

You need to know two things about Baba Yetu

1) It's the first video game song to win a Grammy (and this is before it was specifically stated to be in the category)

2) It's the "Our Father" in Swahili.

Now, I'm going to go tear up over it like I always do.

Musical Monday: Welcome to Fyrestone (Borderlands)

Again, this game isn't my cup of tea, at all, but from what I hear it also has some really great and relaxing music.  I still have to listen to the OST, but it's something.

Musical Monday: The Dike (The Witcher)

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this type of game.  I REALLY hate Open world Gray and gray morality games.  Everything seems hard to find, the person you save from robbers will probably be a sociopath serial killer, and the person who uses light/religion will almost certainly be evil.   Sex and Violence will be the answer to everything, your team will backstab you, and no one will be happy at the end because saving the world will end up dooming everything.

I do admit I haven't played many, but whenever I start looking into them as a tentative thing, I get scared off by the lack of a good choice.  This is also partly the reason why I haven't played NieR.

At least the music is great.

Musical Monday: The Wanderer of Darkness (Lost Odyssey)

Lost Odyssey is the unofficial sequel to Final Fantasy.  It's filled with Magitek, family, love, and villains you just want to smash as they attempt to destroy the world.

In other words, it's a very good (and very long) game.  So, I'm slowly working my way through the game.  I'm on disk 3.

This will take a while.

But, I encourage YOU to play it!  It's a great game that has held up well, and is one of the few RPG's on the Xbox.  So, if you have one and want to expand your collection, pick it up.

Musical Monday- Maria and Draco (Distant World version)

For the early Final Fantasies, what they lacked in processing power they made up in creativity and silliness.

For example, in the middle of Final Fantsay VI you have to act in a full 12 minutes opera on  the SNES until a purple octopus tries to get revenge by dropping an anvil on you.

No, I'm not joking.

As it was on the SNES, it was revolutionary and amazing for the time, but everyone has at least some idea what an opera should sound like, so there was always the knowledge that - as amazing as this scene is- it fell flat.

Several years ago, Nobou Uemetsu started a traveling orchestra. He recomposed the songs so they could be played with a full orchestra and we could finally get a sense of what he was trying to make all those years ago.

"Maria and Draco" is ripe for that kind of remake.  It had a few lines added to finish up the opera (in the original version, all the actors are knocked out and Locke adlibs until Setzer interrupts the performance) and we get a beautiful, operatic, video game music and how it should have been played all those years ago.

Musical Monday; Kingdom Hearts "Night on Bald Mountain"

There's been a lot cut out of Kingdom Hearts.  This guy is in fact a minor miracle.

The first game was originally going to end with Chernabog (as either THE darkness or a personification of the Darkness)  attacking Sora.  Sora would fight his way up Bald Mountain and then the light from Kingdom Hearts would vanquish Chernabog like how the sun/God defeated him in Fantasia.

Lack of time, memory, and system power kind of squashed that idea.  Which is a pity, it sounds AMAZING.  However, they HAD finished the Chernabog model so it got thrown in as a boss fight in the last world.  But, you just flew around and attacked.  It was still cool, primarily because of this:
(Better quality on the KH3D soundtrack)

They played Chernabog's song.

Musical Monday- Main Theme (Tomb Raider)

Sorry for the massive delay you guys!  I'm apart of Operation:Rainfall (as in, I'm helping with the website, articles, etc.)  And was very busy up to and during E3.  I'll try to get some analyses up later this week.  What was your favorite announcement during E3?   In the mean time: Tomb Raider!

I have never played any Tomb Raider Games.  I'll have to change that.

Musical Monday - Cherry Tree Bridge (Etrian Odyssey II) (And E3 musings)

Etrian Odyssey is a 3D dungeon crawler created by Atlus.

While you listen, I just want to muse a bit about E3, or rather the prerelease.

E3 is in a few weeks.  Every company is gearing up for the show.  Some companies, such as Nintendo and Playstation, are going to have halls full of people.  So, why are they announcing their products ahead of time?

One of the earliest official release of items was the Kingdom Hearts 3D English Trailer.  With E3 only a short time away, people believed the trailer would be hid until then.  However, the trailer was released last week.

Official website and trailer here

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale was announced before that, but that should have been held off until E3.  It's a big deal.  We still don't have a trailer for it.  We have a partial characters list, we have video of battles, we have a rundown of how the released characters fight.... but we don't have a trailer.

Why didn't Sony wait until E3?  Why didn't Square Enix wait for the KH3D trailer?

The KH3D trailer is 10 minutes long (No, I'm not kidding)  so Square Enix may have released it early for that reason, but Nintendo could have shown it off at E3.  Kingdom Hearts is a big property and the 3DS is still looking for games.    And the time would be more manageable if they cut out the battle stuff in the middle.

But Sony has no excuse.  The game is big.  The game is a fanboy/girl's dream.  Why not wait until E3 to surprise everyone?  Where they afraid of being scooped? Is it not good?

Or do they have something bigger planned? Sony is announcing 20 games at E3, what are they? Where they afraid the game would get lost in the shuffle?

I'm just not sure.  Why do you think they released it early?

Musical Monday Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Waterfalls of Agharta)

While I have yet to play "Lords of Shadow"  One thing I found interesting is that at least some of the music are remixes from previous games.

In this case: Super Castlevania IV's "The Waterfalls".
